Salman Khan On Tubelight Failure: Audience Don’t Want To See Me Crying

Salman Khan reveals why Tubelight was a flop

After delivering two back to back 300 Crore films no one ever thought that his EID release Tubelight will collapse badly at the box office. There were high expectations from Salman Khan’s Tubelight but the movie failed to make an impact. However the movie touched the 100 Crore mark. Tubelight was bursting of emotions and public don’t go to theatres to watch Salman Khan crying.

Tubelight was directed by Bajrangi Bhaijaan director Kabir Khan. Even in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman played an ordinary howling character but it’s the screenplay which went right with audience and consequently the movies became a big blockbuster. In Tubelight the screenplay didn’t went right and it was a flop. In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Salman said “I did Tere Naam. It was a big hit. However, it was big hit for the first half, not for the second half. People didn’t want to see me like that in the second half. For example, people are watching Tubelight on Television but they didn’t watch it on theater at the time of EID, Diwali, Christmas when you want to go out and enjoy yourselves and you go to theatres all dressed up, to enjoy, to whistle, to throw chillars (coins) and then in the first five minutes you start crying”.

However with his Christmas release, Salman Khan is going to recover the recognition and trust he dropped with Tubelight. Tiger Zinda Hai releases on 22 December and it is predicated to emerge highest grossing film of the year.
