Gautam Gambhir Speaks On Future Of MS Dhoni In The Team Till 2019 World Cup

There have been countless debates on the playing XI of India for World Cup 2019. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli are everyone’s ideal as the Top three batsmen. But the middle order is still not dependable. Sometimes there is Dinesh Kartik at No 4 or Ambati Rayudu or KL Rahul. Team India is eyeing a secure playing XI and an ideal hunt for No 5, No 6 and No 7 batsman. However, the question remains at which position MS Dhoni should bat.

MS Dhoni has been the consistent batsman of playing XI. But he was seen struggling in the England and Asia Cup tour. Selectors recently announced the Indian squad for first two ODIs against West Indies where Rishabh Pant bagged his maiden ODI call-up and replaced Dinesh Kartik. MS Dhoni is there too as Rishabh Pant is designated as a hard-hitting batsman, not wicket-keeper.

Gautam Gambhir backed MS Dhoni and believes he will prove his worth with the bat.

“Performance is the only criteria one can be part of a team. If you are not performing, you cannot be part of a team. Age doesn’t matter. I am sure Dhoni will be wanting to perform and prove the critics wrong,” Gambhir said in a conversation with Times Now.

MSK Prasad, the chief selector believes that MS Dhoni is No 1 choice for a wicket-keeper batsman. However, they are trying Rishabh Pant too for the backup. “We have given opportunities to DK and right now we are giving an opportunity to Rishabh Pant. At an appropriate time, we will take a call as to who is the best among the two,” MSK Prasad told after announcing the 14 man squad.
